The Perfect Small Group Member!
Small groups generally include 10-12 people all with different personalities, motivations, experiences, personalities and character. If you are a small group leader, why not print out these suggestions for your small group members as a guide to creating healthy small groups. If you are a small group member, you might want to take a look at these suggestions and see how you score! Challenge yourself to make some changes if necessary
- BE ON TIME
- BE PREPARED (if that is a covenant decision)
- PARTICIPATE IN THE DISCUSSION
- BE HONEST
BE REAL
- BE AN ENCOURAGER
- BE A GOOD LISTENER
- BE THE HOST or PREPARE SOME GOODIES
- STICK TO THE TOPIC AT HAND
- VOLUNTEER TO HELP (social, serving, praying, calling)
- BE SENSITIVE TO THE HOST (leave on time)
- DONT DOMINATE THE GROUP WITH WISDOM/NEEDS
- DONT AVOID CHALLENGE OR CONFLICT
- SEEK TO GROW AND STRETCH, NOT SIMPLY TO BE COMFORTABLE
No group is perfect! Taking a good look at how we function in a group is helpful in developing mature stages of growth or making changes. You can use this list as an individual or for group evaluation. You might find that some members will appreciate the challenge to function differently and at the same time find encouragement in many of the positive contributions they have made. Its worth the time!
